Mrs. Gwendolyn G. Smith

Funeral service for Mrs. Gwen Smith will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the Red Oak Baptist Church - Longview with Pastor H. C. Rockmore Sr., officiating. Burial Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

Gwendolyn Gene Smith was born January 24, 1944 to the late Thomas Liase Sr. and the late Culla B. Spratt.

Gwen was an extremely loving wife, mother, daughter, grandmother and friend. She departed this life on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Good Shepherd Medical Center.

Gwen attended and graduated from Mary C. Womack High School, Class of 1962. She furthered her education at Wiley College where she graduated with a Bachelor's of Business Administration Degree in 1968. She was also a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Gwen was a loving wife to the late Floyd E. Smith for 43 years and mother to two wonderful children; Cassandra Yvette Smith and Leonard Edward Smith, both of Longview.

Gwen worked for Sohio Pipeline as an account executive, and later worked in her passion of education while teaching at Foster Middle School in Longview Independent School District where she retired.

Gwen accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Red Oak Baptist Church Family until her demise.

Gwen was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Floyd E. Smith; father, Thomas Liase Sr.; mother, Culla B. Johnson; step-father, Hardie O. Johnson and brother, Thomas Liase Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Cassandra Smith, Longview, Texas; her son, Leonard Smith (Danielle Johnson); four grandchildren, BMSR Rashard Horne - U.S. Navy, Norfolk, Virginia; Jalan Horne, Ariyah Smith, and Shakerria Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and loyal friends that all love her dearly.
