Mr.Alton Lewis Smith,the first child of Daniel and Bessie Mae Smith,was born March 07,1937 in Harrison County,Texas.

Alton was preceded in death by his father,mother,son Kenneth Lewis Smith and three brothers:Melvin Hutchinson,Henry Smith and Lynnwell Smith.

Alton accepted Christ at an early age uniting with the Greenhill Baptist Church.He later united with the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Marshall,Texas.He attended Public School in Harrison County.Later he would meet and marry his wife of 48 years,Lucille Carter Smith,and to this union five children were born.

He worked several years for the McConnell Grocery Store.He retired from Marshall Pottery after more than Thirty years of service.Alton worked for Brownrigg Insurance Company until his death.

Alton Lewis Smith,departed this life on Thursday,February 03,2011 at the Longview Regional Medical Center in Longview,Texas.

He leaves to cherish his memories,his wife Lucille Smith; four devoted daughters: Susan Davis(Tony),Karen Reese(Robert),Amanda Blair of Marshall,Texas,Mariel Rose(Sedrick) of Anna,Texas;thirteen grandchildren;five great grandchildren;three brothers:L.C.Smith of Longview,Texas,Clyde Hutchinson(Frieda),James Earl Hutchinson of Marshall,Texas;six sisters:Ettie Pearl Haynes(Billy Joe)of Lubbock,Texas,Verna Thornton,Yvonne Wheeler(Clarence),Debra Gray(Dewey),Angela Pierce of Longview,Texas,Carolyn Pilot(Charles),of Los Angeles,California;one sister-in-law,Linda Smith of Dallas,Texas;one very special great uncle:Charlie Nesbitt of Marshall,Texas;two uncles:Eddie Jennings(Velma)of Kansas City,Missouri,Lewis Jennings of Dallas,Texas;two aunts:Ida B.Shanklin of Kansas City,Missoui,Pauline Smith of Houston,Texas,and a host of other relatives and friends.
