Services for Bertha Carr will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2006, at Hughes Chapel CME Church, with the Rev. C.E. Mitchell officiating, Rev. Carl Lucas, Pastor. Burial will be in Jordan Valley Memorial Park.
Mrs. Bertha Benton Carr was the oldest of 10 children, born to the late Mrs. Ida Briggs and Mr. Frank Benton, Sr., who preceded her in death in Beckville, Texas.
She attended the Beckville Schools. She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Sam Carr. To this union one daughter was born.
She united with the Hughes Chapel C.M.E. Church. Her church ministries included: a member of the Choir, president of the Stewardess Board, and Benevolent Treasurer. She also held the title of "Mother of the Church and Counselor", and she was very faithful to the duties.
On Monday, March 6, 2006, Mother Carr passed away to be with the Lord. Preceding her in death is her husband, Sam Carr; 4 sisters and 5 brothers.
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Carr Sentell of Longview, TX; granddaughter, Ms. Serena Sentell of Tyler, TX; grandson, Edward Sentell of Longview, TX; two loving sisters-in-law, Mrs. Jennie V. Carr Taylor of Longview, TX and Mrs. Ruth Carr Pieham of Detroit, MI; brother-in-law, Mr. Sandy Carr of Detroit, MI; four devoted nieces, Alberta Anderson and Geneva Polk of Longview, TX, Deborah Carr Davis of Houston, TX, and Johnnie Brooks of San Francisco, CA; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
