Services for Dakar Asante' Burkes (Bubba) of Longview, will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2006, at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. H. C. Rockmore, Sr., Eulogist, Rev. J. B. Dunlap, Pastor. Burial, Jordan Valley Memorial Park.

DAKAR ASANTE' BURKES (BUBBA) was born to the union of Reverend DeWitt and Terrell Turner Burkes on July 30, 1979. He attended Longview ISD from Pre-K thru High School. He graduated from Longview High School in 1997. He attended North Texas Community College in Denton, TX for a time and later he became a member of the working population. He held employment as a security guard and truck driver. He later moved back home to Longview where he resided with his mother. He continued to work and pursue his dream of self employment by starting his own company, PlayAkard Promotions, LLC. This company was his pride and joy. His aspirations were to grow it into a company with significant status in the music and entertainment industry.

Dakar was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Plural and Mattie Turner; his paternal grandparents, Norman Sr. and Mary Burkes; and biological paternal grandfather, Gus Lee Mills.

He leaves to celebrate his passing, a loving mother, Terrell Burkes; father, DeWitt Burkes; the apple of his eye, son Dessiah Aqui` Burkes; sisters, Renita Burkes Phillips (Tommy), Yvonnda Burkes Singleton (Floyd), Kinshara Burkes and Chaka Burkes. His uncles, Ronald Turner, Norman, David and Tommy Burkes; great aunt, Thelma Owens; aunts, Thelma Louise Turner, Linda Turner, Sandra Smith and Janet Mack. Dakar also had god aunts, Janie Menefee Taylor, Earlene Glaspie, Glenda Bush, Pearl McCoy, Doris Hunter and Mary Charles. He also leaves a nephew and niece, Barkar and Amber Burkes, who were more like baby brother and sister since he helped raise them. Cherished younger nieces, Asjha Cooper and Zoe Phillips (the newest member to his family) will have a void in their lives from his passing. There will be a void in many more lives for the host of other close relatives and friends.
