Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held Sat., Jan. 16, 2010 at 2p.m. from the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Carthage, TX.
Rev. William McDonald, Officiating. Burial, Old Field Cemetery in Tenaha, TX.

Mr. Earnest Smith was born to the parentage of the late Will Smith and Katherine Robinson in Panola County, Carthage, Texas on October 25, 1944. He received his education at Turner Elementary and graduated from Turner High School in Carthage, Texas, May 1965. Shortly after graduation, he attended Grambling State University. Later, he joined the United States Marines.

He was united in Holy Matrimony to Edna Lois Osborne on June 15, 1972. Two children were born to this union.

Under the leadership of Rev. J. S. McKnight, Earnest joined the New Hope Baptist Church in Los Angeles, Calif. He retired from Safeway Grocery in Los Angeles, Calif.

Earnest departed this walk of life on January 2, 2010. He is preceded in death by his father, Mr. Will Smith Sr.; three brothers, Robert Lee Smith, Willie Smith and James Smith and one sister, Sharon A. Smith.

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving mother, Mrs. Katherine R. Smith; a wonderful wife of 37 years, Edna L. Smith; one daughter, Adrienne Denise (David R.) Cordova; two sons, Galen Bernard Osborne, Earnest Smith Jr.; a special family friend and daughter-in-law, Ronneisha R. Barns of Los Angeles, CA; five brothers, Herman (Monnie) Smith, Carthage, TX; Will Jr. (Hattie) Smith, Detroit, MI; Robert (Gloria) Smith, Marshall, TX; Jessie (Louise) Smith; Clyde (Dell) Smith, Odessa, TX; nine sisters, Ruby (Sam) Mitchell; Ethel (Edward) Williams, Los Angeles, CA; Mary A. Smith, Redland, CA; Kate (Jimmie) Cook, Bellwood, IL; Willie Mae (Rev. William) McDonald; Betty Ruth (Lorenzo) Anderson, Garland, TX; Beverly (Throspher) Willie, Carthage, TX; Katy (Ricky) Staten, Deberry, TX; Debbie (Ernest) Smith, two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two aunts; two uncles; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
