A Celebration of Life ceremony for Mrs. Eula Bernice Shavers Bolton,97, will be held on Friday, August 10, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Wesley McCabe United Methodist Church on Mobberly Avenue. Reverend Virginia Wall wil be officiating.
Mrs. Eula Bernice Shavers Bolton was born to the late Dave and Addie McIntosh Shavers in Gatesville, Texas. The family moved and settled down in Longview, Texas when Mrs. Bolton was six years old. She taught in Longview Independent School District for 43 years. Mrs. Bolton graduated from Longview Colored High School and went on to attend Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree and Master's degree. She completed additional courses from Bishop College and Wiley College in Marshall, Texas, as well as East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas and the University of Texas in Austin Texas.
Until her health began to fail, she was affiliated and served in numerous organizations. After the merger of Wesley-McCabe United Methodist, she served as Co-Chairperson of the Administration Board, member of the Board of Trustees and Social Concerns Committee, worked with Terrific Tuesday Refreshment Committee, member of United Methodist Women and the Asbury House garage sales for many years, and was a member and the teacher of the Joy Sunday School class.
Mrs. Bolton was also a member of the Longview-Gregg County unit of Retired Teachers Association. She served as registrar, member of the Bylaws Committee, was a life member of Texas Retired Teacher Association (TRTA). She attended Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) for seven years, and was a member of the Supervisory Committee for the Teacher Alliance Federal Credit Union.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Maurice Shavers; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Earkie Lee Moss and Eddie Beatrice Moss (John).
Those left to cherish her memory are three loving nieces, Addye DyAnn Shavers of Longview, Texas; Alice Price (Bill) of Longview, Texas; and Vanita Edwards (Claude) of Richmond, Texas; one grandniece, Alice Krystal Miller (Rob) of Romolus, Michigan; one grandnephew, Vincent Claude Edwards of Atlanta, Georgia; a special sister-in-law, Ella Ruth Shavers, of Longview, Texas, and a host nof cousins, other relatives, and close friends.
