Mrs. James "Jamie" Murrell Hatten Todd, the first child of James and Ouida Hatten, was born November 26, 1954 in Cass County, Texas. Jamie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Liberty United Methodist Church in Hughes Springs, Texas. She graduated from Hughes Springs High School in 1973 and from Bishop College in Dallas, Texas in 1977.
In January 1975, she married Rev. Paul Alan Todd, Sr. Their 32 years of marriage was blessed with six children: Chrystalyn (Tony) Baker, Hope (preceded her in death), Paul Jr., Michelle (Phillip) Gray, James, and Sondra.
Mrs. Todd was a dedicated member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Marshall, Texas where she served as a Sunday School teacher, musician and president of the Voices of Faith (youth choir), and secretary. She traveled nationwide and carried the church and choir to many cities and states of the Baptist work.
Jamie served as pianist for the Texas and Louisiana Mass Choir; member of Lucie E. Campbell Music Workshop Choir; instructor in the Baptist Missionary and Education Congress of Texas; instructor in the Texas and Louisiana District Congress of Christian Education; and pianist for the BM&E Congress of Texas. Jamie loved her job as secretary to the President of Texas State Technical College in Marshall, Texas. In addition to serving on the Friends committee at the Marshall Public Library, she has also worked for the Texas Department of Human Resources in Linden, Texas; Wiley College, Marshal, Texas; a radio station in Atlanta, Georgia; musician for the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Flint, Michigan; Good Hope Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas; Thankful Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia; Macedonia Baptist Church in Linden, Texas; Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Daingerfield, Texas; Liberty United Methodist Church in Hughes Springs, Texas; and Bethesda Baptist Church in Marshall, Texas.
She leaves to cherish her memories: Husband, Rev. Paul Alan Todd, Sr.; daughter, Chrystalyn (Tony) Baker, Flint, Michigan; son, Paul Alan Todd, Jr., Houston, Texas; daughter, Michelle (Phillip) Gray, Bacliff, Texas; son, James Edward Todd, defensive back for the Spokane Shock, Spokane, Washington; and daughter, Sondra Rena Todd, Tyler, Texas; father and mother, James and Ouida Hatten, Hughes Springs, Texas; mother-in-law, Pauline Todd, Flint, Michigan; brothers, Ronald (Debra) Hatten, Hughes Springs, Texas; Roderick Hatten, Daingerfield, Texas; sisters, Burnett Hollis, Houston, Texas; Patsy (Michael) Taylor, Hughes Springs, Texas; and Phyllis Johnson, Hughes Springs, Texas; grandchildren, Mi'Kayla Gray, Malaysia Baker, and Quinton Gray, sisters-in-law, Marietta Davis Woodson of Flint, Michigan, Coreane Jones of Ecore, Michigan, Hermie Thorne of Rochelle, New York, and Virginia (Sam) Williams of Flint, Michigan; one brother-in-law, James "Jimmie" Todd of Flint, Michigan and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
