Mattie Juanita Barry was born to the parents of Fred and Mattie Barry on March 14, 1942 in Hallsville, Texas. Although she was named Mattie, she preferred to be called Juanita. Three brothers, Fred, Watt, and Melvin preceded her in death.

She was educated at Galilee High School in Hallsville, Texas. She later attended and graduated from Prairie View University in Prairie View, Texas. Her field of study was nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Harbor General County and San Pedro Peninsula Hospitals in California.

Juanita loved sports especially football and basketball. She was an avid bowler and played in numerous leagues. She was also a great cook and enjoyed preparing many wonderful meals for her sisters. Juanita was very close to her sisters; they shared a very special bond and had many memorable years together.

Juanita accepted Christ an early age at the Pleasant Hill Baptist. She later became a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in San Pedro, California. When she moved to East Texas she rejoined Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and sang in the choir. She remained faithful until her demise.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two loving and devoted sisters, Alice Lilly and Helen Barry of Longview, Texas; nephews, nieces, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.
