Funeral services for Mrs. Stewart will be held Sat., Jan. 16, 2010 at 1p.m. from the Elysian Field Baptist Church. Rev. DeWayne Laffall, Officiating and Rev. Ricky Sanders, Eulogist. Burial - Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Elysian Fields, TX.
Mazie Williams-Stewart was born in Harrison County, Texas on October 12, 1913 to the parentage of Thurman and Susie Hill Williams. She was the first of nine children.
At a very young age, Sister Mazie's biological father passed and she was reared by her mother Susie and step-father, Frank Leffall, Sr.
She received her education at Mt. Pleasant School in Elysian Fields, Texas. She married Arthemus Stewart on December 25, 1929 and to this union five children were born.
She joined Long Ridge Baptist Church at an early age and later in life she united with Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She was a member of the Deaconess Board, sang in the choir, attended Sunday School regularly and was a faithful member until her health failed. She also was a member of the Eastern Star.
Sister Mazie was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother. She was a VERY good cook and her sweet potato pies were delicious.
Her husband, Artemus Stewart; parents Frank and Susie Leffall; a daughter Zenobia Stewart; two sisters, Ethel May Veasey and Mary Williams; six brothers, Vernice Williams, Spurgeon Williams, Frank Leffall Jr., Lawrence Leffall, U. B. Leffall and Honor B. Leffall all preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memories 3 daughters, Berda Sanders, Mary Fields (John), Annie Stewart Stephens; one son, Erman Stewart (Winnie Faye); 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
