Graveside services for Melvin Joe Shankle will be 9 a.m. Saturday, December 9, 2006, at Perry Clay Cemetery, with the Rev. James E. Lister officiating.

MELVIN JOE SHANKLE was born to the parentage of Mr. Emmett Sr. and Jearlene Shankle in Longview, Texas, who both preceded him in death.
Melvin was a graduate of Longview High School. He was employed by Mrs. Baird's Bakery, Skinner's Grocery and he was also self employed.
Melvin departed this life on December 2, 2006 at his residence. A brother, Charles Shankle and step-sister, Julia Templeton also preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memory three daughters, Kashif J. Shankle and Sharde' E. Kambai both of Longview, Texas and Darshell D. Harper of Atlanta, Georgia; son, Malik Harper of Detroit, Michigan; grandson, Mathias L. Kambai; son-in-law, Shane C. Kambai; step-mother, Viola Shankle of Longview, Texas; siblings, Matthew Shankle of Denver, Colorado, George, Willie P., Emmett Jr., Vernedia Shankle all of Longview, Texas; step-brother and sisters, Donald Jones of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jean Scott, Janice Harris, Charlotte Johnson all of Longview, Texas; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
