A Celebration of Life ceremony for Mother Ruby Porter, 86, of Longview, Texas will be Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Bethel Temple Church. Burial will follow at Perry Clay Cemetery.

Mother Porter was born to James and Ida B. Harris Jones in 1926. She married the late George E. Porter, Sr. To this union, six children were born. Lela, Johnny, George Jr., and Willie Jay Porter preceded her in death. Survivors include Frank Porter of Dayton, Ohio, and Georgia Jones of Longview, Texas. 29 grandchildren and a host of great and great great grandchildren.

There will be a wake Friday, November 30, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at Hayter Chapel on 1215 Jordan Street in Longview.

Mother Porter was also known as "Missionary Ruby Porter", not only to the churches where she served, but also in the community where she worked. She housed many hungry people and many hungry people. She also supplied them with necessities, such as clothes, shoes, and transportation. Mother Porter worked as a faithful member of the Hayter Chapel COGIC under the supervision of several pastors. The most recent pastor was Superintendent Milton Timmons. Mother Porter has served as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher; Bible Bond President and helper. She also served as President of the YPWW, President of the choir, Mothers' Board, and currently the inactive Church Mother because of her failing health.

Mother Porter served faithfully in the Longview and Pittsburg districts, as well as the Texas Northwest Second Jurisdiction in many capacities, including District Choir President, and the Christian Food Committee.
