Obituary

Funeral service for Mr. Releford W. Barrett will be held Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 11 a.m., Bro. Michael D. Wilburn officiating. Burial Union Post Oak, Longview.

Mr. Releford Barrett was born to the parentage of the late Noble and Mable Borders Barrett on May 15, 1930. He was the fourth of six children born to this union. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Geraldine St. Julien, Myrtle Moore, Johnnie Thomas and one brother, Wheeler Barrett.

Releford attended elementary school in Kilgore and graduated from Longview Colored High School. After high school, he enlisted in the Armed Forces where he served in the Korean War. After receiving his honorable discharge from the military, he moved to Saginaw, Michigan where he was employed for General Motors Company.

He married Myrtle M. Wright and to this union four children were born.

He was baptized into the Union Church of Christ family and was a faithful member until his health failed.

Releford's footsteps were silenced on Saturday, June 18, 2011 in Jefferson, Texas.

Left to be comforted by the Holy Spirit are his four children, Anita Barrett of Los Angeles, California; Wendell Barrett of Palestine, Texas; Robert Barrett and Michael Barrett both of Longview, Texas; nine grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; one sister, Juanita B. Lee of Dallas, Texas and a number of other relatives and friends.
