Funeral Service for Mr. Winston Rufus Dillard will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Sweet Home Church of Christ Farm Market Road 968 Hallsville, Texas. Bro. John W. Smith, Eulogist and burial in Dixon Memorial Cemetery in Hallsville.

Winston (Went) Rufus Dillard was born on August 27, 1946 to the parentage of Frederick (Bo) and Annie Marie (Big Red) Mack Dillard, who preceded him in death. Winston (Went) was baptized at Sweet Home Church of Christ at an early age. He lived in the Sweet Home Community for fourteen years. While living in the Sweet Home Community, he attended the Galilee School in Hallsville, Texas. After moving to Dallas, Texas he attended Lincoln High School where he graduated in 1964. After graduation he was employed doing various jobs where he was a dependable employee until his health began to fail. Some of his most enjoyable time was being with his homeboys sitting under the tree. He was known by many people as the man on a crutch who had a beautiful garden, using only a hoe and a shovel. He was an inspiration to everyone who knew him, because he didn't let his disability affect his daily activities.

Winston (Went) was called from his earthly home on Monday, March 7, 2011 at 9:20 a.m. at the Clairmont Nursing Home in Longview, Texas.

Preceding him in death are his father, Frederick (Bo) Dillard and his mother, Annie Marie (Big Red) Mack Rudd; two Brothers, Freddie Gene Dillard and Ricky Earl Rudd and one sister, Vera Dillard Gamble.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife, Shirley Jean Brantley Dillard of Longview; a grandson, Lavayvian (Jack Rabbit) Godlock, who he raised as his own of Longview; three daughters, Shirley Yvonne Crow of Dallas, Shirley Marie Joiner of Lancaster and Vicki Dillard Thompson of Longview; two sons, Winston Rufus Dillard Jr. of Gladewater, and Randal Okeith Stevenson of Longview; fourteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; four sisters, Evon Dillard Taylor (Perry) of Hallsville, Peggy Sue Dillard Hall of Longview, Camille Dillard Devance (Ricky) and one step-sister, Thelma R. Smith Nobles of Longview; three brothers, John Wesley Dillard of Dallas, Maverick (Angela) Dillard of Marshall, and Morris (Kathy) Dillard of Hallsville; a devoted aunt, Ella Ruth Dillard of Longview as well as a devoted cousin, Dyann Shavers also of Longview; three special aunts, Murrine Mack of Dallas, Fannie Lois Mack Davis of Houston, and Bobbie Mae Mack Johnson of Dallas. He is also survived by the Douglas and the Rudd Families of Dallas, and the mothers of his children, Linda Carraway of Dallas, Ethel Mae Green of Gladewater and Vernita Stevenson of Longview and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
